LOS ANGELES • When last seen, Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard of “NCIS” had collapsed on the beach with what seemed to be a major heart attack. With St. Louis fans wondering about his fate, I looked for David McCallum, who plays Ducky, at a CBS party Sunday night — but he was nowhere to be found.
So I tracked down Brian Dietzen, who’s a regular this season as Ducky’s sidekick, Jimmy Palmer, for some scoop. After softening Dietzen up by chatting about his recent visit to St. Louis for a movie premiere (he enjoyed the Loop and the Tivoli), I got him to tell me that “when the season opens, Jimmy is the medical examiner.” Don’t worry too much about Ducky, though; in May, McCallum signed a new two-year contract.

- Chris Waild is writing an episodeMaybe you already read Chris Waild’s tweets and didn’t understand it. We worked very hard on the “translation”. Chris Waild tried to confuse people and so he chose “The Avengers” references to explain the stuff going on in NCIS 10x01. He’s not allowed to give out any information so everything has a hidden meaning. We figured it out for you and here it is:
1) “Whoa. This scene where Jimmy installs Iron Man’s arc reactor into Ducky with his bare hands is intense!” —> Palmer finds Ducky on the beach and performs CPR, saving his life
2) “McGee’s tearing his clothes due to anger issues…” —> McGee is in shock and tries to control his emotions by tearing at his clothes
3) “Tony just found a hammer…” —> Tony finds something to get him and Ziva out of the elevator, saving both their lifes
4) “Gibbs’ coffee cup is now a bulletproof shield…” —> the coffee cup is impaled
5) “Ziva is in tight leather” —> Ziva is injured in the elevator and is not able to move properly at first
6) “Abby has an eyepatch” —> Abby gets injured and has to wear an eye patch for a while
7) “Jimmy is Hawkeye.
